Today we head to district 19 where Sen. Nick Frentz is up against Elizabeth Bangert and district 21 where Sen. Michael Goggin faces Ralph Kaehler. Both Bangert and Goggin did not respond to our queries so we will only feature the responses from Frentz and Kaehler.
Nick Frentz (D)
Q. Do you support Minnesota’s Petroleum Replacement Law (Minn. Stat. 239.7911), which calls for the consumption of at least 30 percent biofuels in transportation fuel by 2025?
A. Yes. I think we should pursue these goals and what's more, I feel we can meet them by 2025.
Q. Given the large number of spark ignition engine powered vehicles on the road and the need to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, what is your position concerning a Minnesota Low Carbon High Octane Fuel Standard/Clean Fuels Policy which would result in higher consumption of ethanol?
A. I support the increased use of ethanol fuels both to reduce carbon emissions and to support our corn growers and related agribusinesses. I have not seen the specific bill language referred to in this question, but look forward to reviewing any and all ideas.
Q. Do you support accelerating the permitting process for installation of equipment to improve ethanol production and reduce emissions?
A. I support any acceleration of permitting in MN that doesn't sacrifice our permitting goals of protecting workplace safety and public health.
Q. Do you support making higher ethanol blends, such as E15, available across Minnesota through infrastructure funding?
A. Yes. On multiple occasions I have publicly stated my support for greater E15 infrastructure funding across the state, and I will continue to do so.
Ralph Kaehler (D)
