The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a series of proposals today intended to mitigate the fallout from its issuance of RFS small refinery exemptions (SRE) to the oil industry.

Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, and South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem, have asked the Trump Administration to undertake a series of executive actions to help the agriculture and ethanol industries.

The Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association (MN Biofuels) joined many other members of the ethanol industry in Ypsilanti, Michigan today to testify at the EPA's public hearing over its proposed supplemental notice for SRE reallocations. The volume of E15 sold in Minnesota this year as of Sept 30 was 57.09 million gallons, nearly as much as the volume sold for the whole of 2018 (59.4 million gallons).

Minnesota senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, have submitted statements to the Senate’s congressional record opposing a provision in the 2020 Interior appropriations bill that allows the EPA to continue issuing small refinery waivers regardless of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) recommendations.

2019 is set to be another record year for E15 sales in Minnesota with 64.38 million gallons sold as of Oct 31, according to data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce. 

The EPA's final RVO for 2020, which does not fully account for gallons that will be lost to the issuance of small refinery exemptions, has been met with stinging criticism from the ethanol industry and its advocates. Minnesota's senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, along with Rep. Collin Peterson, issued the following statements.
