Continuing our series on the candidates running for elections this November and where they stand on issues surrounding Minnesota's ethanol industry, we head to Minnesota senate district 3 where Grant Hauschild who is up against Andrea Zupancich and senate district 15 where Anita Gaul faces Gary Dahms. We did not receive responses from Zupancich and Dahms.

Q. Do you support Minnesota’s Petroleum Replacement Law (Minn. Stat. 239.7911), which calls for the consumption of at least 30 percent biofuels in transportation fuel by 2025?

A. Yes.

Q. Do you support a role for ethanol in clean fuel standard legislation?

A. Yes.

Q. Do you support accelerating the permitting process for installation of equipment to improve ethanol production and reduce emissions?

A. Yes.

Q. Do you support making higher ethanol blends, such as E15, available across Minnesota by funding compatible infrastructure at retail stations? If yes, would you prefer the funding source to come from the General Fund or a fee placed on each gallon of liquid fuel sold in Minnesota similar to the Petrofund program?

A. Yes - general fund but open to other ideas.

A. Yes.

Q. Do you support a role for ethanol in clean fuel standard legislation?

A. Yes, absolutely.

Q. Do you support accelerating the permitting process for installation of equipment to improve ethanol production and reduce emissions?

A. Yes, but still ensuring that proper procedures are followed and safety standards met.

Q. A. Yes. I would consider funding from both sources. On the one hand, it makes sense that the money come from a fee placed on each gallon, since those who use the most fuel stand to benefit the most. On the other hand, all Minnesotans benefit from this, so it makes sense to use money from the General Fund. I would be open to both funding sources.
