The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for June, reporting that more than 1.6 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 25.57 million cellulosic RINs.
More than 25.27 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first half of the year to 109.75 million. So far this year, 5.58 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 74.4 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 29.76 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. Nearly 93.53 million D3 RINs have been generated domestically, with 16.22 million generated by importers.
According to the EPA, 297,480 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first six months of the year to 1.51 million. More than 1.5 million D7 RINs were generated for cellulosic heating oil, with 11,256 generated for cellulosic diesel. So far this year, 11,256 D7 RINs were generated domestically, with 1.5 million generated by importers.
More than 4.59 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first half of the year to 40.27 million. Nearly 12.27 million D5 RINs were generated for ethanol, with 15.04 million generated for naphtha, 1.73 million generated for heating oil, 10.92 million generated for nonester renewable diesel, and 887,405 generated for renewable compressed natural gas. So far this year, all 40.85 million D5 RINs have been generated domestically.
Nearly 1.26 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first half of the year to 7.45 billion. Most, 7.33 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 118.61 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. To date, 7.33 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 4.89 million generated by importers and 118.61 million generated by foreign entities.
Nearly 317.47 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in June, bringing the net total for the first six months of the year to 1.76 billion. The majority, 1.39 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 381.86 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 1.39 million generated for renewable jet fuel. To date, 1.46 billion D4 RINs were generated domestically, with 123.23 million generated by importers and 188.79 million generated by foreign entities.
The EPA estimates nearly 9.42 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 312.46 million retired, 355.21 million locked and available and 8.75 billion unlocked and available.
