Doyal : Ethanol Does Not Drive Up The Price Of Food

Falling corn prices have had little impact on food prices thus refuting the notion that ethanol has driven up food prices, says Renewable Fuels Association chairman, Randall Doyal.

For years, ethanol critics (read : Big Oil and its cohorts) have contended that ethanol led to an increase in corn prices which in turn sent food prices upwards. But in an interview with Mankato's KEYC News 12, Doyal, who is also the CEO of Al-Corn Clean Fuel and a board member of the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association, said there is instead a direct correlation between oil and food prices. Moreover, he points out to the recent drop in corn prices has done little to decrease food prices. The food versus fuel argument has dogged the ethanol industry for years despite the abundance of data that overwhelmingly disproves it. We even have a whole section on this website dedicated to this myth (http://mnbiofuels.org/resources/facts-about-ethanol/food-versus-fuel). The chart below clearly illustrates the deep correlation between food and oil prices.
