Klobuchar, Smith and Peterson on Year-Round E15

  • Monday, 03 June 2019 13:16

On May 31, the EPA extended a 1-psi reid vapor pressure (RVP) waiver for E15 during the summer months, thus enabling E15 to be sold year-round. Minnesota’s Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith along with Rep. Collin Peterson issued the following statements:

Sen. Amy Klobuchar:

“As the summer kicks off, the new rule for the year-round sale of E15 is great news for farmers and consumers across the country. The year-round sale of E15 will bring prices down at the pump, strengthen our homegrown energy economy, and decrease our dependence on foreign oil. I have been fighting for years to allow for the year-round sale of E15 and this announcement will ensure cleaner, more affordable fuel choices during the summer driving months and all year long.”

Sen. Tina Smith:

“Farmers in Minnesota and across have been hit hard by low farm prices and recent trade uncertainties that have pushed prices even lower. This rule change – something I’ve long fought for – will increase demand for farm products, bolster our farm communities, all while expanding the use of renewable fuels nationwide.”

Rep. Collin Peterson:

“While I am still reviewing the details, it looks like EPA listened to our advice by allowing E15 to be sold year-round. Although this may be caught up in the courts, allowing year-round sales of E15 is a step in the right direction for our rural economy. I have heard concerns about how the rule treats ethanol plants that sell directly to retailers and will continue to work with EPA on this issue.”
