"We write in strong support of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and to urge you to oppose any changes that would undermine the objectives of the standard. The RFS is an effective driver of economic development. It has strengthened agriculture markets and created hundreds of thousands of jobs in the new energy economy, and driven economic growth in rural communities across the country. A stable RFS reduces our nation's reliance on foreign oils and provides the certainty needed to drive innovation and progress towards advanced biofuels," they said in the letter.
The letter from the Democratic Senators comes two days after Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst rejected proposals by Sen. Ted Cruz to alter the RFS in favor of the oil industry. Yesterday, Agiculture Secretary, Sonny Perdue, told the audience at Commodity Classic in California : "I can tell you Trump stands with corn farmers, biofuel farmers and the RFS. I stand with him and with you." He later tweeted he would not support policies that would undermine the RFS.
We met with both Klobuchar and Smith today who reiterated to us they will continue to support and defend the RFS.
