The previous record was 1.03 million gallons, which was recorded in March. According to data from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, the volume in May marked the third straight month E15 sales in Minnesota have exceeded a million gallons. In April, E15 sales were 1.01 million gallons.

More notably, the volume recorded in May was the first time monthly E15 sales exceeded E85 sales (1.06 million gallons) in Minnesota.

On a year-on-year basis, E15 sales in May this year was more than double the volume moved in May 2016 (530,766 gallons).

Cumulatively, 4.98 million gallons of E15 have been sold in Minnesota this year as at the end of May, which is 87 percent of the volume sold for the whole of 2016 (5.68 million gallons).

Meanwhile, as noted above E85 sales in May was 1.06 million gallons, bringing the total volume of E85 sold in the first five months of the year at 5.42 million gallons. 

E30 sales continued to rise in May to 52,564 gallons from 51,253 gallons in April. This is the highest volume of E30 recorded in Minnesota since  May 2011 (64,852 gallons).
