The public comment period ended July 27 at 11:59 pm EST. Many organizations including the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association had launched specific platforms to help biofuel supporters send a message of support for the RFS to the EPA while others such as Fuels America and VoteVets collected petition signatures.
In addition to the written comments and petitions, representatives from the ethanol industry, including the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association, delivered prepared testimonies to the EPA in June in Kansas City, KS, members of the National Corn Growers Association rallied on Capitol Hill while Rep. Tim Walz visited Guardian Energy's facility in Janesville, MN to drum up support for the RFS.
With the 48,510 comments as well as the testimonies delivered in Kansas City, the EPA should now have more than enough data that proves the original RFS targets set by Congress are indeed achievable.
The EPA will publish its final rule for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 RFS by Nov 30.
In other news, EPA administrator, Gina McCarthy admitted that the last delay in issuing the RFS rule "was disruptive to say the least."
