Using data from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, the Commerce Department said E85 consumption in April totaled 1.05 million gallons, up 30 percent from March.
It said the average price for E85 in April was $1.78 per gallon with the lowest recorded at $1.30 per gallon (the average price for regular unleaded was $2.31 per gallon that month).
In total, 3.45 million gallons of E85 were sold in the first four months of the year, slightly lower than the 3.73 million gallons of E85 recorded in the same period in 2014.
However, it should be pointed out that there were more stations selling E85 in the first four months of 2014 than in 2015 while E85's discount to regular unleaded during that period last year was between 55 cents and 77 cents per gallon.
Meanwhile, E15 sales in April clocked in at 182,687 gallons, representing a 5.6 percent increase from March. E15 sales in April were also the second highest ever recorded in Minnesota (January was the highest with 183,934 gallons).
On a cumulative basis, a total of 692,708 gallons of E15 were sold in the first four months of the year.
